Weeknote #2

I rode my bike across Vermont

Well, most of Vermont. There's a ride called the 200-on-100 which spans the entire length of the state (~200 miles), mostly along VT 100. It seemed more logistically challenging to start at the Canadian border, so we opted to start in Stowe, which meant the ride was only 170 miles.

I love Stowe. We spent the day prior to the ride just hanging out. We went to Doc Ponds, The Alchemist, Stowe Cider, and Edelweiss. Many of my favorites.

We pushed off early the next morning. The weather was perfect. A nice crisp fall morning that transitioned into a clear day. This would've been a very different ride if it were a bit warmer...

VT 100 has many beautiful stretches, although some are busier than we would've liked. We were cruising at ~21 mph for the first 100 miles, but most of the elevation was back-weighted, which slowed us down. There were a few steep climbs, but most were long and gradual. Climbing is obviously more difficult when you're fatigued, but there were plenty of long, fun descents to recover on.

A side-benefit of riding VT 100 is that all of our stops were at quintessential VT country stores. Which is basically a convenience store/deli/coffee shop rolled into one. And most have great front porches. It's a thing.

Overall, it was a great, epic ride that I would absolutely do again. Ideally a bit further into the fall.
